Paintings

2025-2020

I am a multimedia artist born and raised in Northern California, with a primary focus in figurative works utilizing oil paints and charcoal. My work employs a saturated and bright color palette that is often reflective of the West landscape. It explores my personal relationship to the everyday moments that seem to exemplify our humanity. I often portray figures in a crouched or sitting position to establish a level of vulnerability and intimacy that can be conversed between the piece and the viewer. I depict people in everyday settings (bathrooms, parking lots, bedrooms , diners, bars) that are modified by the melodramatic color palettes to emphasize memory, create a feeling of unease, and to kindle nostalgia and relatability. I partner with individuals that I build relationships with in my community, close friends, and family to capture them living their everyday lives. A moment lived that was captured now becomes a moment remembered and immortalized through my own perception.

As of late, my interests regarding the figure have been focused upon our relationship with time and in the ways it alters our perception and our relationships. We exist in time but how do we experience it? My work frequently captures moments where time feels elastic, portraying scenes where something has yet to or is about to occur, creating a tantalizing sense of anticipation. These moments are often rendered in a high-feverish, phantasmagoric manner where the real and imagined co-exist. It’s an exploration into my bizarre grasp of reality where my memories of what happened are often slightly skewed from the “truth” of the matter.
